"Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army."
-- Edward Everett
JOYCE DARA, Asst. Principal

I’m originally from New York and have lived in Los Angeles for the past 14 years.  I received my undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo where after graduation I was hired as a faculty member for the dance department at the undergraduate level.

As a fourth and fifth grade teacher for LAUSD, I became very interested in mathematics and became one of the first graduates of the UCLA Math Content Program for teachers.  Subsequently, I was hired as one of the first math coaches for Local District D.  I received my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the CaliforniaStateUniversity at Northridge.  I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Walgrove school community!  Outside of school, I’m an avid runner, running an average of 40-50 miles a week.  I love animals and have two very special cats named Spanky and Lu Lu.
