ACADEMICS: RECOGNITION & ACHIEVEMENTS
Did you know...
Walgrove Avenue School is one of the few Elementary schools on the Westside to meet every one of the 21 criteria of the Annual Yearly Progress requirements established by the Federal Government.
Expanded programs in Math, Science, and Visual Performing Arts place Walgrove’s curriculum on par with Los Angeles area Magnet schools which specialize in those disciplines.
When ranked by the State of California with similar schools, Walgrove has a student achievement ranking of 10. Walgrove has continued to rise in API every year for the past consecutive 5 years.
Walgrove is a Title I Achieving School (only 13 schools within LAUSD received this distinction.)
In recognition of Walgrove’s increased achievement, the school received $124,000 from the federal government to maintain growth efforts and to share strategies/ resources with lower-performing schools.
We are proud to be the Recipient of the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Grant for the past 7 years
. This grant allows the school to give away free reading books to every student twice a year.
Six fifth grade Walgrove students have been awarded academic scholarships to New Roads Middle School in the past 2 years. Walgrove music students have won 7 music scholarships within the last 3 years from the Los Angeles Music Teachers Association. Our students have performed at Disneyland, the Music Center, the Governor’s Ball for the Academy Awards, the Santa Monica Mall, and numerous other venues.
