Beyond the Bell

Mayra Vasquez .and her assistants provide a free, safe, supervised and fun recreation program every  after school until 6pm daily.  www.lausd.k12.ca.us/lausd/offices/btb/

S.T.A.R. 2008-2009
There are two components to the STAR program at Walgrove:

  1. Prop. 49 Grant program covers ALL children grades 1-5. (Meaning that the program is free of charge.) The only rule is that they must attend the full day, 5 days a week.
  2. Kindergarten and fee-based program covers ALL kindergarten children and children grades 1-5 who will not consistently attend everyday.

 The fees are as follows:

  • 5 days a week: $249 a month
  • 4 days a week: $229 a month
  • 3 days a week: $199 a month
  • 2 days a week: $174 a month

 Kindergarten children are mostly separated from children grades 1-5. The kinders are picked up after school and immediately served snack.  Most of their activities occur in Room 5. Their schedule is as follows:

  • 2:29 – 2:45 Snack
  • 2:45 – 3:30 Homework
  • 3:30 – 4:30 Sports
  • 4:30 – 5:30 Enrichment with the Kinder Teacher
  • 5:30 – 6:00 Twilight Recreation

*Enrichment classes with a specialized enrichment teacher will be offered 3 days a week this year, based on adequate enrollment. These classes will have a fee, and is separate from the after school childcare program.

Children grades 1-5 meet at the Cafeteria directly after school for snack. Their schedule is as follows:

  • 2:29 – 2:45 Snack
  • 2:45 – 3:30 IQ GO Math
  • 3:30 – 4:15 Literacy
  • 4:15 – 5:00 Homework
  • 5:00 – 5:45 Enrichment

*Enrichment is included in the Grant program.
