LISA LAICHTMAN, Third Grade Teacher
Lisa didn’t start out to be a teacher. She was a science major at University of California at Santa Barbara and graduated in 1976, after three years. She used her science degree to land a job working as a pharmaceutical representative for a large international medical manufacturing company named Winthrop Laboratories. She had a very successful career selling medical equipment and medications to hospitals, doctors, and pharmacies. When her son was born she left the pharmaceutical industry to become a stay-at-home mom.
While volunteering as a parent at her son’s elementary school, she discovered that she enjoyed teaching and that it was the career she had always wanted. She became a science teacher in grades K-5 at Kenter Canyon Elementary School in Los Angeles. She left Kenter to become a classroom teacher at Walgrove. Lisa loves teaching at Walgrove and after 10 years, it feels like home. While at Walgrove she has taught first, second, and third grades.
