Friends of Walgrove

uniting children, teachers and parents

Christine Rose - Upper Autism, Special Education Teacher, Grades 3-5

I graduated from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art.  At CSUN, I was inspired to take education courses, and later, also at Santa Monica College while raising my 3 children. In June 2010 I completed my Level 1 Credential for Moderate/ Severe Disabilities and plan to complete my Level 2 for the California Clear Credential as an Education Specialist this June 2011.

Before Walgrove, I worked as a preschool assistant teacher at WPC Preschool in Westwood.  I have always been interested in working with young children and volunteered at my children’s schools.  Teaching children with special needs is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal, here at Walgrove.

I believe that children learn best by being accepted as individuals with specific talents and abilities that can be revealed and engaged in the school environment.  Since coming to Walgrove, I have found friends among the teachers and staff and parents.  Also, that every day is a valuable day of learning and growth for all who are involved in the classroom.

In my spare time, I continue taking education courses for current methods and strategies and technology available for teaching students with special needs.  I enjoy spending time visiting and cooking with my children. I also enjoy gardening and outdoor exercise with my spouse.

I have traveled in Europe to England, France, Germany, Netherlands, and to Canada and Mexico. I lived for part of a year in Sweden with my first child and I was inspired by observing the Swedish early-education system.
