I am Elvia (Mireles) Perez, the oldest of three daughters, a wife, and a proud mother. I was born and raised in West Los Angeles. I began my academic journey when I started preschool in Santa Monica at the age of three. I’m a former student of Richland Avenue Elementary, where our Former Principal, Ms. Hayashi, was actually one of my kindergarten teachers and Broadway Elementary for part of fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade. I then attended Windward School a few years and then went on to become a Venice High School Alumni. I have taught first grade at Walgrove since 2004.
I began my work in the field of education by tutoring and volunteering at different schools. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Northridge. My Teaching Credential was also obtained at CSUN from Michael D. Eisner’s College of Education. In May 2010, I completed my Masters program in Educational Administration and obtained the Certificate of Eligibility for the Administrative Services Credential.
The teachers I had growing up were so motivating and engaging that I was inspired to become a teacher. The memory I have of those days is what I try to recreate everyday. I try to be creative and find new ways of promoting learning while using different teaching modalities. I differentiate instruction and collaborate with my peers and parents as much as possible to meet all the needs of our students. I strongly believe that in order to create life long learners I, as an educator, must provide an engaging learning environment in which my students can feel safe and comfortable in. I understand how important it is to have a strong curricular as well as social emotional foundation. I hope that I can inspire my students to always strive for the best!
Throughout the years Walgrove Elementary has evolved tremendously and with the support of our amazing community and partnership between parents, teachers, and students, we will continue to grow and excel.
