LAUSD School Year Calendar Change Proposal: Please note the flier that went home last week regarding a District Wide Early Start Instructional Calendar which would change the start date of school to August 15, 2011, and the end date to June 1, 2012.  For more details, check out the information that Lynn Jones has kindly posted regarding this proposal on our Friends of Walgrove site at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FriendsofWalgrove/message/1900.

 

Week of December 6-10Parent Conference Week -- early dismissals all week.  Schedule is listed below:

Monday, December 6Community Day Poster Making!  1:50pm, Kinder Yard.  Have the kids make posters for Community Day. We'll have the papers and markers.  Please bring your young artists!

 

Tuesday, December 7Friends of Walgrove (FOW) Meeting, 6:30pm, Library.  Child care will be provided in the Auditorium, $3.00/child.   


Wednesday, December 8Farmers' Market every Wednesday at Walgrove!!  2:00pm-4:00pm, Morningside Way entrance of Walgrove, $25/bag with $2 of every bag sold going to Walgrove.  Local, fresh, organic, in-season mixed produce delivered right to our doorstep!  To sign up for a bag and/or more information:csacalifornia.org.  For questions about food or to get more involved: Kali - info@csacalifornia.org or Sara -sara@csacalifornia.org.


Thursday, December 9:  Fourth Grade Fundraising.  The fourth grade is raising money to take all 50 fourth grade students on a field trip to Sacramento in March.  So, every Thursday we will be selling fresh flowers before school by the kindergarten gate. Bouquets cost $8each.  After school on Thursdays two fourth grade moms will be selling French crepes from their catering truck.Yummy! I don't know the definite price for the crepes, but I think it might be a few dollars. Please invite your neighbors to come shop for flowers in the morning, or pick up crepes between 2:00pm and 3:30pm.  Thank you for supporting us as we raise money to meet our goal of an exciting and enriching field trip for the Walgrove fourth grade.  Lisa Laichtman, Fourth Grade Teacher.


Friday, December 10Parent Workshop - Helping Your Child Become a Life-long Reader, Research-based Strategies that Work!  8:30am-10:00am, Location TBD.  We are thrilled that our very own Emilia Barozzi, teacher and Walgrove parent, has offered to lead a parent workshop.  Please RSVP by December 8 to Sarah Reimers (walgrovesarah@gmail.com) so that we can plan hand-outs and snacks accordingly.  Respond even if you are a "maybe" so that we have an idea of numbers.  We hope everyone can make this very helpful Parent Workshop!

Saturday, December 11Community Day, 1pm-4pm, Walgrove Campus.  Cleanup classrooms, organize for teachers, work in the garden.  Bring the kids, bring snacks.  Great way to spend the day with the family and teach them to take care of OUR school.  Contact: Francine Nellis (francine.nellis@me.com)

 

 

LOOKING AHEAD

Thursday, December 16Walgroovy Holiday Bazaar, all day during the kids' Winter Holiday Performance, Walgrove Campus.  Just in time for the holidays.  Gift items of all kinds;unique handcrafted jewelry, knits, greeting cards, lotions, vintage pillows, children's books, educational games, recyclable lunch bags and wrappers, hats,and more.  Get all your TEACHER gifts there!  It'll support the school and be very convenient. And who doesn't love that?
