WEEKS OF MAY 9-20: STATE'S STANDARDIZED TESTING AND REPORTING PROGRAM


Monday, May 9California Standards Test (Grades 2~5, Special Education) Starts.  Please make certain that your child is rested and receives a healthy breakfast.  Healthy snacks will be provided by the Friends of Walgrove on each day of testing for students who are testing.  Your child's prompt attendance is crucial.  All students K~5 should arrive no later than 7:55am.  The start-of-school bell rings at 8:05am and teachers will take students directly into the classrooms.  Late students in all grades (K~5) will remain in the library during the testing period and will do grade-appropriate academic work.  Late students in Grades 2~5 will have to make up missed tests. 


Tuesday, May 10REGULAR Dismissal, 2:30pm.

Wednesday, May 11Wednesday Walgrove Gardening Meeting,12:00pm-12:45pm, Walgrove Learning Garden (If it rains, we may meet in Room 20, Mr. Borowski's classroom).   Come join Master Gardener, Marianne Brown, teachers, and parents for a weekly Walgrove Garden Meeting.  See you in the garden, Emiko Kuwata (emkuwata@gmail.com).

Wednesday, May 11Farmers' Market, 2:00pm-4:00pm, Morningside Gate, $25/bag with $2 of every bag sold going to Walgrove.  Local, fresh, organic, in-season mixed produce delivered right to our doorstep!  Place your order at: www.csacalifornia.org.  For questions about food or to get more involved: Kali - info@csacalifornia.org.

Saturday, May 14Walgrove Community Day, 1:00pm-4:00pm, Walgrove Campus.  Please sign in at the Quad when you arrive and pick up supplies.  Projects include: cleaning classrooms, gardening, and handywork.  Contact: Francine Nellis (francine.nellis@me.com).

LOOKING AHEAD
Tuesday, May 17"Shaping Walgrove" Meeting, 2:45pm-4:45pm.  Join us for the second "Shaping Walgrove" Meeting to discuss the future of the school with parents, teachers, and administration.  Contact: John Fischer, School Site Council (SSC) President (jfischer@serve.net)

Wednesday, May 18Family Council, 6:30pm-7:30pm.  Be a part of Council!  Kids, teachers, and parents will come together for our very first Family Council.  After we practice Council, we will share cupcakes!  Contact: Michelle Dean, Co-President of FOW (michellebdean@yahoo.com)

Saturday, May 21Walgroovy Hip Hop (Drop Off!) Dance Party, 4pm-7pm, Reimers' House.  Drop off your kids for three hours of hip hop dancing fun including dinner, a hip hop instructor, a bouncer, a face painting, a Walgroovy CD and more!  $20 per kid ($10 per sibling), 30 kid minimum/40 kid maximum.  Minimum age: Rising Kindergartener.  Contact: Sarah Reimers (walgrovesarah@gmail.com)

Tuesday, May 24ZJ's Shop Out, 5pm-8pm, ZJ's Boarding House (www.zjboardinghouse.com).  First-time ever Shop Out event at ZJ Boarding House (2619 Main Street, Santa Monica).  Get your summer essentials and help out Walgrove at the same time!  Giveaways, snacks, drinks, and special appearance by The Ghouls -- bring the whole family to this fun evening!  Contact: Lynn Jones (lynnjones310@gmail.com

Thursday, May 26The Shakespeare Club Presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream,"Performances at 10:30am, 1pm, 3pm, and 6pm, Orlantha Ambrose Performing Arts Center (Auditorium).  

HELP WANTED
FOW Officer Nominations Needed: We need more nominations for the Friends of Walgrove officer positions!  The official slate of ACCEPTED nominations will be sent out one week before the June FOW Meeting.  If you would like a detailed description of officer duties/responsibilities sent to you, please contact: Julie Dair (juliedair@yahoo.com).  Please fill out and submit nominations forms on the counter in the box in the Main Office.   

Studio Help Needed: The Studio teachers could really use our help with keeping the Studio neat and clean!  If you can spare the time, they need 3~4 parents to help clean up after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays for fifteen minutes to do the following: (1) sweep the floor, (2) wipe the tables, (3) rinse and dry the paint brushes, (4) take dry paintings off the drying racks, and (5) sharpen pencils.  Contact: Ms. Ariel Park (arielpark@verizon.net) and Ms. Julia Gonzalez (juliag@gmail.com) if you can help out!

 

Team Co-Chairs Needed: Please consider volunteering as Co-Chair for the following teams: (1) Beautification, (2) Grant-Writing, (3) Physical Education, and (4) Playground & Lunch.  Contact: Sarah Reimers (walgrovesarah@gmail.com).
