HAPPENINGS & HELP WANTEDS FOR WEEK OF: FEBRUARY 13-18, 2012

Annual Fund Week – This week we are holding an annual fund participation drive, designed to bring our total family participation numbers above 50 percent. Please, if you have not yet given, or if you are able to give more than you already have, take this opportunity to do something wonderful for your child and for our school community. EVERY GIFT OF ANY AMOUNT HELPS and if we all give what we can, we’ll have enough for our kids. Help us reach our $100,000 goal so we can continue to build on what we’ve got at Walgrove: a great community, a nurturing learning environment that fosters creativity, problem-solving and a holistic approach to education the whole child. Also, if you are able to help staff the tables or pick up coffee from Starbucks before school, please e-mail Anne Tierney (anne.tierney@me.com).

Donate at the Annual Fund table outside the gates from Feb. 13-17, online at http://www.friendsofwalgrove.com/page/contribute-to-the-fow-annual, or pick up and return your donation card from the FOW shelf in the front office.

Car Wash Fundraiser – Saturday, February 18, the 4th fourth grade will be holding their final fund raiser for the Sacramento field trip. The car wash will be in the parking lot of V & S Services, on the corner of Bundy and National, located at 301 South Bundy Drive, Los Angeles 90066. The car wash will last from 1:00 - 4:00. HELP WANTEDS

Volunteer Opportunities – All volunteer opportunities are now in a blaze orange-labeled binder in the Main Office (near the FOW Bulletin Board). Please check it out and sign up to help out on our many projects. The sign-ups are organized by type of task, but there is an Index by Committee and Index by Date in the front if you want to look up something. I have also put all volunteer opportunities online. Go to www.friendsofwalgrove.com and click on the orange/yellow button "SIGN UP NOW!" above the photo slideshow on the right side of the page. Questions? Contact: Julie Dair (juliedair@yahoo.com).

New Grant/Business Funding Task Force – We still need people from grades 1, 2, 3 and 5 and are welcoming ANYONE who can help until the end of the school year. Perhaps it was not clear that while helpful, NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED. We have people who are spearheading but also need others who can support with everything from events to organization. It is imperative that we make this a priority for our school effective immediately. Please be in touch with the below parent point people if you have questions and/or are able to join this critical effort.

Sarah Reimers, FOW, walgrovesarah@gmail.com
Julie Dair, FOW, juliedair@yahoo.com
John Fischer, SSC, john.fischer@411hoops.com
Brooke Wirtshafter, SSC, brookewirt@yahoo.com

Fourth Grade Needs Very Large Boxes such as refrigerator, TV, or appliance boxes. We are going cut the cardboard into large panels to use in Studio Lab. The bigger, the better. Also, if anyone with a box cutter could cut the sides apart, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

Host A Walgroovy – If you would like to help with a Walgroovy Gathering, in any way large or small, please let Toni know as soon as possible. We are getting the next batch together. Contact Toni Vera-Martinez, Room 10 (eyeler1@yahoo.com).
