DIRECTORY REMINDER: The Walgrove Directory for 2011-2012 has arrived!!  Please turn in your directory order forms to your teacher if you would like a copy of this year's directory -- a wonderful resource to contact classmates for playdates and look up information about Walgrove including: FOW contact lists, a teacher/staff roster, Walgrove Core Beliefs, an A-Z Glossary of Walgrove terms (in English AND Spanish), a campus map, a calendar of events, and more!   It will be delivered in your Wednesday Packet.  Extra directory order forms are available from the Main Office on the counter, or e-mail Julie Dair (juliedair@yahoo.com) and she will e-mail you the form.

Wednesday, October 26:

  • Gardening Meeting, 8:15am, Walgrove Garden (will be rescheduled if rainy).  Come to our weekly gardening meeting!  Contacts: Ruth Handel (ruthhandel1@mac.com) and Denise Bell (denisemichelebell@gmail.com).
  • Parent/Teacher Council, 3:00pm-4:30pm, Room 10.  Childcare will be available, $3.00 per child. Contact: Michelle Dean (mbdean72@gmail.com).
  • Wednesday Packets Going Home!  If you ordered a directory last week, you will be receiving it in this packet! 
  • Farmers' Market, 2:00pm-4:00pm, Morningside Gate.  $25/bag with $2 of every bag sold going to Walgrove.  Orders must be placed by Sunday night at: info@csacalifornia.org or check out the website to find out what's in this week's bag at: www.csacalifornia.org.  For questions about food or to get more involved, contact: Kali (info@csacalifornia.org).

HELP WANTEDS

Halloween Decoration needed!  If anyone has white tissue paper (the kind used to wrap gifts) to spare please bring to Room 8 by Friday, October 28, so we can make ghosts to decorate the quad.  Contact: Mrs. Perez (Room 8, Grade 1). 

 

Emergency Preparedness Help needed!  We need:

  • Donation of 6 bins (32-gallon size) to hold students' emergency supplies
  • Donation of 36 "D" batteries  (for flashlights)
  • Volunteers to paint classroom numbers on blacktop so students know where to line up with their classes

Join the Studio Lab Committee!

  • We are putting together a Studio Lab Committee and need members!  This committee will support all things Studio Lab including documentation, communication, sourcing materials, developing a show of student work, cleaning the Studio Lab Room and supporting the studio teachers in any way that we can.  The Studio Teachers will be speaking at the  November 8th, 2011 FOW meeting.  Please email your interest or questions to amycj@ca.rr.com - or speak directly to the Studio teachers.  Thank you!  Amy Johnson.
  • We need a shelf painted and the wheels on a cart replaced.  Please e-mail Ms. Ariel Park (arielpark@verizon.net) or Ms. Julia Gonzales (juliag@gmail.com) with your available days/times and they will work it out with you.  Thank you!

 

CSA is looking for volunteers!  Sign up for just 1 or 2 Wednesdays per month, 1:30-4pm, distributing pre-purchased bags of organic produce and receive your own bag FREE!  You can do it with a pal and split it!  Please contact francine.nellis@me.com if you are interested.  And remember -- $2.00 from each bag goes directly to Walgrove!

Monday, October 31Walgrove's Halloween Spooktacular!  Contacts: Mrs. Perez (Room 8, Grade 1) and Ms. Aptaker (Room 23, Grade 3).

  • Set-Up Help Needed! 8:15am, The Quad.  We need help putting up the Halloween decorations right after drop-off.
  • Halloween Spooktacular Events!  1:00pm, The Quad.  Parade of Costumes, Pumpkin Display, and a live performance by THE GHOULS! 
  • Clean-Up Help Needed!  2:30pm, The Quad.  We need help taking down all the Halloween decorations right after pick-up.

Friday, November 4Walgroovy Gathering: Lakers Party (Dads).  THIS WILL BE RESCHEDULED DUE TO LAKERS GAME CANCELLATION!

 

Saturday, November 5Walgroovy Gathering: Wine Tasting (Adults), 6:30-pm-10:00pm, Trevisan Home.  Entertain in style without going broke.  Find delicious and reasonably priced wines to complement your meals and entertain your holiday guests.  Learn from a local sommelier, mingle with grown-ups and get your drink on!  Gourmet appetizers and artisan pizzas provided by Chef Gian Luca Trevisan.  THIS EVENT IS FULL AND ALREADY HAS A WAIT LIST!

FROM THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE... 

 

  • We are still waiting to hear from MRS. NELSON'S BOOK FAIR on final reconciliation of the last book fair.  Once we do, I will schedule a meeting with Olivia and our two teachers on the library committee to help identify how to best use the earnings on library inventory.   • LIBRARY CORNER MYSTERY GAME!  The Mystery Game is in full force!  The display is in the library, so please talk it up with your children and encourage them to participate!  Contact: Library Team Co-Head, Brandy Oeser (brandyoeser@yahoo.com).
  • The library now has a DISPLAY CASE mounted on the outside of the library wall. We will use this to communicate any and all event related information happening in the library, hours, as well as fun facts/questions/or…? WHAT IDEAS DO YOU HAVE?
